Afrobeats, dancehall and a healthy dose of British swagger.
The realms of Afrobeats and dancehall merging has really been a domination in the last year or so. From J hus to Kojo Funds, there’s a plethora of UK Afro Bashment music flying about in cyberspace that’s really resonating with a new generation of UK rap artists, producers and party-goers.
Loads of new Afro Bashment music to vibes too this month and I just can’t get enough so for those who are not too familiar with the scene, I’ve got 6 tracks that may help you familiarize yourself.
Lets start with Jhus..
1. J Hus – Did You See
If you had your gun fingers in the air, catching two two wines, with the aux cord plugged into the iPhone, in the shoobz in 2015, then there’s no way you could of missed the rugged rhythm of “Dem Boy Paigons” being pumped out in the house parties – the stand out track from East London’s rising star J Hus that propelled his fame. Hus, is back with a new British Afro-beat sound, with a touch of rude boy flavor.
Next up is Afro B and this one, is with the one and only, Baney Boy!
2. Afro B ft. Yxng Bane – Juice & Power
Typically for Afro B, ‘Juice & Power’ is a fusion of all we know and love, Afrobeats and Bashment, with a touch of trap influences and once again, every track that Bane jumps on, he just gives it that JUICE with the smooth R & B undertones. This track is absolute fire.
You know Bane had to be in the mix, its a MUST!
3. Yxng Bane ft Kojo Funds – Fine Wine
It still amazes me how incredibly talented he is at making a melody over any beat regardless of the genre. How he was able to turn Ed Sheerans pop song into a dancehall infused slow wine, afro bashment tune, still baffles me but that’s FIRE!
He drops that smooth R&B melody over any beat, and the track just has that ISKABA vibe as Wande Coal likes to describe it. I call it, Afro Swag. He is the English Chris Brown.
One of the hottest UK Urban tunes of 2016, “Fine Wine” by Yxng Bane & Kojo Funds.
Next up its Tion Wayne
4. Tion Wayne – Minor
Tion Wayne has impressively done incredibly well for his career. Hailing out of Edmonton and having gathered over five million views on YouTube. He’s one of the first UK rap artists acts to pursue this sound, and notably signed to EMI in early 2017. He makes that street content, but an overriding party rhythm track.
My favorite guys, Lotto Boyzz had to be added to the mix.
5. Lotto Boyzz – No Don
Next is my favorite boy, Kojo Funds!
6. Kojo Funds – Warning
I went through a season where all I played was Kojo. Kojo is back with another certified banger! He never disappoints. Hailing from Canning Town, creating a major buzz in the music scene, Kojo really brings that Afro Swag to his music. His sound has been described as AfroSwing. His track with Abra Cadabra, ‘Dun Talkin’, and solo release ‘My 9INE’ have been doing the numbers on YouTube, and he’s built on his buzz.
